Waterskiing isn’t easy. It’s just easier. With waterskiing, you will fall flat on your face a few times before getting the hang of it, but once you figure out how to get up and the weight distribution, you’re never going to forget it. You’re also being assisted by a motor-powered boat and you’re on a flat surface. You can jump the wake, but that’s optional.

Catching waves in surfing isn’t optional. If you’re not catching waves, you’re not surfing. In order to surf, you first need to learn how to stand on a big board. After you figure out how to stand, you then need to learn how to stand while moving. Following that, you must learn how to adjust to unpredictable waves. You will wipeout many times during this process.

Overall, it takes the average person one to two days to learn how to waterski and three to four weeks to learn how to surf. That in itself gives you the answer. Surfing is harder, but it’s also more rewarding.
